It must have been hours later, but Crimson knocked on my bathroom door and called out, “Deja? I brought you some rice for your stomach, and Leya sent over a donor if you want to feed.” She laughed hollowly. “She said to tell you to use your Carnal manifestation, but I think we all know you won’t. I mean, Ridley showed up like sex on a stick, promised you mated bliss, and you won’t even ride that pony… why she thinks you’ll fu—”

I ripped the door open and glared at her. Something about the fact I could kill a person four different ways, two of them without ever touching them, made people wary of my glare. Not Crim. She smirked at me and shoved a plate of yellow rice at me. The room behind her was empty, and I gave her a look.

“I left the delicious morsel in the living room.”

“No. I’m too…” I grasped the air between us, shaking my hands to get my point across. “If I feed, I won’t be able to control myself.”

“Shut up, Deja. I have known you for three years. Never once have you left a donor feeling anything more than slightly light-headed. When you first got here, you swore upside and down that you didn’t kill that guy, and I believe you. I don’t know when you stopped believing that but, cut that shit and eat your rice. Do some meditation, and then come to the living room and feed like you need to.” She glared right back and roommate or not, a demon glaring at you was never fun.

“Fine.” I grabbed the plate, using the fork to shovel the warm deliciousness into my mouth. “But I’m not using Carnal, and you’re not leaving.”

“Duh to both. Ten minutes, or I’m coming back in without my glamor.”

I slowed down, taking the plate to my room and sitting at the small desk there as I tried to calm my nerves. I could handle it. Crim was strong enough to pull me back. It would be OK.

After I finished my rice and cleaned myself up, I carried my empty plate out of my room, my eyes falling on my donor immediately. I shook my head, walking around the trio in my living room. “No.”

“Yes.” The handsome wolf smirked and sank back against the couch cushions. I’d never officially met the man before, but I recognized him from Dean’s pack. He’d been around Amina a few times, and while I knew he was an impressive creature from watching him there, he wasn’t who I wanted in my soul.

“This is who Leya sent?” I asked Crimson, placing my plate in the sink and washing it slowly to waste time.

“She said he has more energy, so it would be harder to hurt him. Not that I’m worried about you hurting him, Deja.” Crim shrugged and took a seat next to Frankie, who was probably there to report back to Leya if I fed or not.

It was times like then; I was sure my boss liked me.
